Acts 2:42 / final practice week post

Today was my day to share a morning devotional thought with the interns. We have a great group of students this year. I’m looking forward to spending the summer with my team. These guys are working so hard and they come into the office dead tired in the mornings. I tried to keep it simple and interesting for them. We work so hard on so many details just for the conference that it can become easy to loose sight of our main objectives in all of this. We are here to serve the church. I thought it would be cool to look at an early picture of church life from Acts 2:42. In order to drive my point home I wrote an alternate version full of sarcasm to stress what we really should be called to. I must confess that I can only write a satire like this because I have been guilty so many times for distorting what God really showed us His bride should look like in Acts 2:43.
Acts 2:42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, to fellowship, to the breaking of bread, to prayer, to perfect sound design, perfect I-mage magnification and praise choruses with fun motions like Everlasting Love. Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. No person on stage ever missed a cue; people always cried on the slow songs and came forward at invitation. All the believers were together and had everything in common, especially a love for 80’s rock solos over Bon Jovi esq. praise ballads. (or Reo Speed Wagon if you are Kevin Greer). Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone who didn’t already have an IPOD. Everyday they continued to meet in the temple courts or the wherever the best praise band was playing David Crowder songs. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts as they discussed how to better program their services. Praising God they enjoyed the latest pyrotechnics and light shows. And the Lord added to their number daily those who agreed with their philosophy of programming.
I like the original version better . . . but we could use some more praise choruses that sounded like Bon Jovi . . . and some COW BELL!!!! Can you tell I am ready for a 3 day weekend? Check out our final practice day video! Stay tuned next week for Memorial Hall set up.
